Lead-Paint Poisoning

We Are Dedicated To Protecting The Rights Of The Children, The Most Vulnerable

Lead paint has been banned from New York for more than 40 years. But unfortunately, as we see all the time as New York City Lead Paint Lawyers, many landlords still haven't removed this poison from the apartments they rent to families. Every day, children throughout the city are diagnosed with lead paint poisoning. Every year, 4,000 New York children are diagnosed with lead poisoning, which can cause behavioral problems, learning disabilities, seizures and death.

Because children are so precious and important it is very upsetting that they must suffer this way. We will help you and your child get the maximum money award available. As New York City Lead Paint Lawyers we know that this money is critical to parents who must pay the high cost of treating and caring for sick children.

Children who have been exposed to lead can have damage to the nervous system including the brain, which can interfere with growth, harm hearing, lower IQ scores, and make learning difficult. We know as New York City Lead Paint Lawyers that these unfortunate children are at risk for learning disabilities, behavioral problems, and kidney failure. At very high levels, lead can cause seizures, coma, and even death. Parents often tell us that they only discover that their child has high lead levels when doctors do blood tests at yearly checkups. Children face great risks because their bodies absorb lead more easily than adult bodies do

Children who live in old, poorly maintained housing or in housing undergoing renovation, face the greatest risk. Suburban and rural children face danger too, if they live in older homes with peeling or chipping paint or in houses being renovated.

New York City now has a controversial new law forcing landlords to test for and remove tainted paint in apartments with young children. Landlords must send annual notices to find out the ages of tenants, complete testing and hire certified workers to fix any lead hazards discovered.

The new law requires an owner to remove lead-based paint from a flat that is home to a child younger than 6. It passed over a veto from the Mayor and a challenge in court by landlords who argue that it will cost them too much to keep our children from being poisoned.
